Oceanside Greets New Civic Center

Oceanside’s $30-million civic center will be dedicated today and Saturday with speeches, an art show, a gala ball and public tours.
Ceremonies for the government center and library, distinctive with its huge fountain, arches and colorful tiles, will begin at 1 p.m. today at 300 N. Hill St.
Meanwhile, the Oceanside Art Exhibit and Contest will be held from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. today in the civic center’s community rooms and Palm Fountain plaza. A ball to be held from 8 p.m. to midnight has already been sold out.
On Saturday, an Independence Parade will be held on Hill Street between Wisconsin and 5th streets from 10 a.m. to noon. A civic center open house, offering tours, entertainment and refreshments, is scheduled for 6 p.m.
Parking is available at Pitmer and 4th streets.
