SANTA ANA : Three-Vehicle Crash Injures Eight People

At least eight people were injured, one of them seriously, when a suspected drunk driver lost control of his pickup truck on Sunday and slammed into two cars, authorities said.

The accident occurred about 5:50 p.m. on West 17th Street, just west of Fairview Avenue, when a driver of a Chevrolet truck traveling west at a high rate of speed swerved into two eastbound vehicles, witnesses said.

Police said the suspect, whose name was not released, was arrested on suspicion of felony drunk driving.

Names and conditions of the injured were not immediately available.

Gene Lomeli, a witness who helped pull some of the victims from the wreckage, said none of the injured was wearing seat belts. “They were hurt real bad,” he said. “A couple were really busted up.”
