Los Angeles Police homicide detectives were investigating the death of a man whose body was found this morning in the Los Angeles River near White Oak Avenue and Victory Boulevard.
The man, who appeared to have died accidentally, had not been identified.
Several passers-by notified police after seeing the body in the riverbed from an overpass at about 7 a.m., said Sgt. Woody Baca of the West Valley area station.
The dead man is believed to be a transient in his 20s, possibly Latino, police said. His body was bruised, but the cause of death had not been established, police said.
The body was found in an isolated section south of the intersection of White Oak and Victory, where a residential neighborhood borders the Sepulveda Dam Recreation Area.
