Takin On The Cash continued to dominate the West Coast juvenile ranks with a victory in the $335,000 Dash For Cash Futurity Sunday at Los Alamitos Race Course.

The 2-year-old colt, owned by Felipe Tiscareno and trained by Caesar Dominguez, scored his third major futurity victory of the year by covering 400 yards in 19.73 seconds.

With veteran jockey Danny Cardoza aboard, Takin On The Cash overcame a sluggish start to run down early leader Four And Two in the final strides.

The victory was worth $121,600 and it moves the son of Dash For Cash to just over $305,000 in earnings this year.

Takin On The Cash came into the Dash For Cash Futurity after scoring victories in the Bay Meadows Futurity and the Kindergarten, but his slow start Sunday gave his trainer more than a few anxious moments.

“When he broke so slow, I was hoping he could get up for third or fourth,” Dominguez said. “He really needed the extra 40 yards of this race.”

Takin On The Cash finished a nose in front of Four And Two, with Jacks Special Gem coming in third.

Takin On The Cash will be shipped to Ruidoso Downs, N.M., to compete in the $2.5 million All American Futurity.

“He earned his way to the All American today,” Dominguez said.

The finals of the 440-yard All American Futurity, the richest event in quarter-horse racing, will be run Labor Day.
