The San Diego County medical examiner’s office has identified a woman whose strangled body was found in Scripps Ranch this week as 48-year-old Margaret Orosco Jackson

Her residence was unknown, Deputy Coroner Dan Matticks said.

The joint city-county Metropolitan Homicide Task Force took over the investigation Thursday because of its similarity to more than 40 cases the force has been investigating. In many of those cases, the bodies of nude women, many of them believed to have been prostitutes, have been found strangled in remote parts of the county.

Jackson’s fully clothed body was found Wednesday in an isolated area in the 10300 block of Scripps Ranch Boulevard. Jackson was strangled with a rope, which was found around her neck. She is also believed to have been a prostitute, task force spokeswoman Lt. Liz Foster said, adding that it appears the woman was killed elsewhere and her body dumped in Scripps Ranch.

Jackson’s body was found when a woman on her way to work saw a coil of nylon rope near the sidewalk, then glanced over the embankment and saw the body.
