THE SIDELINES : Gene Shue Named GM of 76ers
Gene Shue, the fourth-winningest coach in NBA history and a former coach of the 76ers, was named the Philadelphia team’s general manager today.
Shue’s teams won 784 games in his 23 seasons as an NBA head coach at Washington, Philadelphia and San Diego. He, Bill Fitch, Don Nelson and Cotton Fitsimmons are the only coaches in league history named coach of the year twice.
Shue succeeds John Nash, who resigned at the end of last season and is now general manager of the Washington Bullets.
