Heat Can Do More to Promote Soccer

Share

Regarding Paul McLeod’s article on the Los Angeles Heat (Friday, July 13), it is true that the team is understaffed and perhaps low on funds. But there are a number of things that a dedicated staff (no matter how small) could do with little expenditure to increase attendance and awareness of the team and sport of soccer:

* Someone with the Heat has to write something about the team every day and send it to local papers.

* The Heat should contact every youth soccer program and coach in Southern California and offer deals to get them to bring their players to the games.

* There should be a public-address announcer with enthusiasm.

* The Heat should sponsor a booster club.

* The team should advertise local players in its lineup.

* Dedication. I don’t believe the present employees in the Heat office are dedicated.
