Colts Trade Unhappy QB Chandler to Tampa Bay
The Indianapolis Colts announced today that the NFL team has reached an agreement with Tampa Bay to trade disgruntled quarterback Chris Chandler.
Terms of the trade were not immediately available.
Colts officials said the trade is contingent on Chandler, the Colts’ 1989 starting quarterback, passing a physical at Tampa.
Chandler left camp 11 days ago after the Colts refused to pay him a $50,000 bonus for off-season workouts. He also was upset that his contract was not renewed after the Colts signed quarterback Jeff George, the NFL’s No. 1 draft pick.
Chandler sued the team last week for breach of contract, saying the $50,000 payment is part of his contract. The Colts management says he doesn’t deserve the money because he did not complete the workouts satisfactorily.
The quarterback could not be reached for comment today at his Seattle home. His agent, Mike Sullivan, said he was involved in discussions and could not comment immediately.
Meanwhile, the Colts’ star running back, Eric Dickerson, remained absent for the sixth consecutive day today. Dickerson has criticized the Colts’ offensive line and said he wants to be traded.
