SANTA PAULA : Attackers Stab Man 18 Times on Street
A Santa Paula man who was stabbed 18 times as he was walking down the street was reported in critical condition Saturday at Ventura County Medical Center, authorities said.
Avelino Morales, 28, was being treated in the intensive care ward for multiple wounds to his upper body, a nursing supervisor said.
Morales was walking with a friend at 10:29 p.m. Friday in the 1200 block of East Ventura Street when a group of people assaulted them, Santa Paula Police Sgt. Jim Horn said.
The friend, who was not identified in a police report, was not injured in the attack, but Morales received “an unusually high number of stab wounds,” Horn said.
The area where the stabbing took place is a quiet residential neighborhood, he said.
A motive for the attack has not been established.
