Indianapolis Colt running back Eric Dickerson could be sidelined up to one month with a hamstring injury, trainer Tom Williams said Wednesday night.

Williams said Dickerson was examined by a doctor Wednesday night and will begin light workouts at a rehabilitation center Thursday.

“He’s not supposed to do any serious running for at least two weeks,” Williams said. “The doctor told us he shouldn’t take any chance of further injury.

“If he tries to come back too quick, he could risk injury to the opposite leg, compensating for the injured leg.”

Williams said Dickerson, a six-time Pro Bowl running back and former Ram, would begin a light workout schedule Thursday that would include weight training and light stretching.

Dickerson boycotted the first 11 days of the Colts’ training camp and then failed his physical when he reported to camp on Monday.

His left hamstring tested 40% weaker than his right.

If Dickerson is sidelined one month, he would miss the entire Colts’ exhibition schedule. The Colts open the regular season Sept. 9 at Buffalo.
