THE SIDELINES : Johnson Quits Camp but Returns
Broncos wide receiver Vance Johnson walked out of training camp Monday, apparently as a result of a salary dispute.
However, he was back at camp this morning. He refused to talk to the media but did not practice because of a pulled hamstring.
“It’s hard for me to speculate on what happened,” said interim Head Coach Wade Phillips, who said Johnson will be fined.
“He wasn’t here, and he didn’t talk to me. It’s an unexcused absence.”
Team sources indicated that Johnson has sought a new contract the past few weeks.
According to NFL Players Assn. figures, Johnson is expected to earn $412,500 in base salary this season, plus a $10,000 roster bonus.
