Cardinals Eliminated From Connie Mack Series
The Orange County Cardinals lost a pair of games Tuesday and were eliminated from the Connie Mack World Series at Farmington, N.M.
Host Farmington defeated the Cardinals, 9-8, in eight innings to begin the day. The Cardinals took an 8-5 lead in the top of the sixth inning when Bo Haley hit a three-run home run. Haley graduated from El Toro High School in June and will play for USC next season.
A two-out, three-run throwing error in the seventh allowed Farmington to tie the score, and an eighth-inning home run by Derek Martin won it for Farmington.
In the fourth round of the double-elimination series, the Cardinals were beaten by Brooklyn, N.Y., 3-1. Walter Dawkins, a senior at La Quinta, hit a home run in the seventh for the Cardinals.
