George Gets First NFL Start Friday
Rookie quarterback Jeff George will get his first NFL start Friday night when the Indianapolis Colts play at Seattle, Coach Ron Meyer said today.
George, the first player picked in the NFL draft last spring, relieved veteran Jack Trudeau in the second quarter Saturday and played the final three periods in the Colts’ 16-7 loss in the Hoosier Dome to Denver.
He completed eight of 16 passes for 82 yards but was sacked three times and was intercepted twice.
“We’ll start Jeff George and play him according to his performance, probably into the third quarter,” Meyer said. “We’ll see how he takes it as a rookie in the starting position and see how he adjusts. We’ll play it by ear and go from there.”
