Dickerson Wins Greyhound Stake
Dickerson turned just his fourth start into an impressive finish, winning the $110,000 Review Greyhound Stake for harness horses at the Illinois State Fairgrounds.
In another major race Wednesday at the fairgrounds, Mantese destroyed the stakes record in winning the $74,000 Little Pat Review Stake for 2-year-old pacers.
Dickerson, a victim of a break in his second-place elimination-heat finish, thundered home in the raceoff, winning for driver Jan Nordin in 1:58.1. The 2-year-old trotting colt returned $12.80, $7.80 and $3.20.
The Super Bowl colt had made just three official starts, winning one, before Wednesday.
Mantese won the Little Pat race-off in 1:53.45, shattering the previous record of 1:55.3 set last year by Till We Meet Again.
