From Times Wire Services
NEW YORK —
Heeding a request from the city, the Federal Aviation Administration has agreed to reroute jetliners away from the U.S. Open tennis tournament this year.
In their request city officials cited “the unique status of this event and its economic benefit to the city,” which they put at more than $100 million annually.
The tournament runs from Aug. 27 to Sept. 9. The jet rerouting will be in effect only during hours of play.
