Aztecs Intensify Two-a-Day Football Drills
The San Diego State football team will put on the pads today for the first time as drills intensify for the season opener Sept. 8 at Oregon.
The Aztecs will be in full pads for practices at both 8:40 a.m. and 3:20 p.m. Two-a-days continue through Aug. 27, and the first scrimmage is Wednesday.
“What pads do now is allow us to see what kind of players our new guys are,” Coach Al Luginbill said. “The game changes. Now it’s the physical part of it.”
Luginbill said the skill position players have been able to do quite a bit without wearing pads, but the lineman haven’t done as much.
“It hurts more in the trenches,” Luginbill said. “We don’t get as much work done there.”
