Man Killed in Gun Battle With Home Intruders
A gunman who asked for his target victim by name opened fire inside a house, trading shots with the victim before killing the man and fleeing with two other suspects, authorities said Wednesday.
Detectives had not established a motive for the gun battle at a home in the 300 block of Artesia Lane in Long Beach about 7:35 p.m. Tuesday, Lt. Carroll Shelly said.
Omar Hernandez, 21, of San Pedro, was visiting friends when another man entered the residence and called Hernandez by name, Shelly said.
The suspect then began firing a semiautomatic weapon at Hernandez, Shelly said, with Hernandez returning fire.
A second gunman in a car also opened fire, he said, before all three fled.
