Boles Wins His 1st Main at Ventura Track

Alan Boles of San Fernando might not have had the swiftest car at Ventura Raceway on Friday night, but his boldness proved to be the difference in the 15-lap Street Stock main event.

With action slowed by a yellow flag on Lap 12, Boles, who was running third, took advantage of the complacency of Lynn Brader of Somis and Don Keeter of Ventura. Boles swept inside the two drivers on the third turn of the quarter-mile dirt track to take the lead when the green flag was waved--a lead Boles did not relinquish.

Keeter held on for second and James Powell Jr. of Cypress edged Brader for third.

It was the first main-event victory of the season for Boles, who began the night in 21st place in the season points standings.

For Marty Desbrow of Ventura, however, it was business as usual. Desbrow, who leads the Mini Stock standings by more than 300 points over Chris Raschke of Ventura, won his fifth main event.

Raschke, who also has won five main events, placed second and Jeff Drake of Fillmore was third.

In the six-lap Street Stock figure-eight main, Jon Christensen of Palmdale drove a borrowed car to a wire-to-wire win, holding off Scott Olsen of Ventura.

Steve Boucher of Oak View led from start to finish in the six-lap figure-eight main event. Joe Silva of Port Huenenme finished second, followed by Oxnard’s Mike Spencer and Camarillo’s Wes Harris.

Boles and Powell drove to eight-lap Street Stock heat wins.
