Illegal Aliens’ Heads Shaved in Robberies

Six illegal aliens had their heads shaved while they were being robbed over the weekend, and police are trying to determine whether the cases are related.

“This was done to humiliate them. It was uncalled for, this extra violence,” San Diego police spokesman Bill Robinson said.

The robbers used large knives and an electric razor to strip the hair from their victims, including a woman, who suffered cuts and scrapes to their scalps but did not require hospitalization, Robinson said.

The first incident occurred about 11:30 p.m. Saturday in a canyon near Interstate 805 and Otay Mesa Road. Five male Latinos, armed with a handgun and a knife, confronted three Mexican men and robbed them of $127 and three pairs of tennis shoes.

The thieves made their victims disrobe, then cut up their pants and used the knife to shave a wide swath of hair down the middle of their heads, Robinson said.

The victims, all from the Mexican state of Morelos, are Luis Emescula Bacato, 20, Edward Luis Martinez, 29, and Robert Cruz Martinez, 19.

The second robbery occurred a short time later in Southeast San Diego when two Latino men robbed Avendina Arreola, 25, of $100 and his accordion, Robinson said. Arreola was taken to a house, where his head was shaved and his pants cut up, but the victim could not identify the house, Robinson said.

The third incident occurred early Sunday when two Latino men, carrying a club and a knife, abducted Mario Ramirez, 20, and Noraporta Hernandez, 20, both of Tijuana, from the 300 block of East San Ysidro Avenue.

The thieves took them to a house, stole 10,000 pesos, then blindfolded them and shaved their heads with an electric shaver, Robinson said.

“Needless to say, this is extremely unusual,” Robinson said.

There have been no arrests. All the victims are in custody awaiting deportation.
