Guilty Plea in Child Sex Case

A Santee man pleaded guilty Thursday to 12 sex charges involving the molestation of five children in his wife’s day-care center in their home.

Cabray Wilson Scott Sr., 53, admitted to molesting four girls and one boy, with the earliest molestation occurring in 1984.

Scott faces a state prison sentence ranging from 24 to 40 years, Deputy Dist. Atty. Dave Rubin said.

Scott was to have had a preliminary hearing Thursday where all five victims were to have testified. Scott’s guilty pleas make that unnecessary, Rubin said.

San Diego Municipal Judge Gale Kaneshiro dismissed 32 other felony sex charges in a plea-bargain agreement.

The prosecutor said he discussed the proposed guilty pleas with the families of the victims and that they concurred with the resolution.

The judge told Scott he will not be granted probation at his sentencing Oct. 4. She also said Scott will have to register as a sex offender in whatever community he lives in if he is paroled.

Scott has worked in the circulation department of the Union-Tribune Publishing Co. for 23 years, according to court records.

He was arrested June 12 and has been in County Jail since.

The youngest victim was 3 1/2 years old, according to Rubin, and the oldest was the boy, now 14.

Scott was originally charged with molesting two girls, but Rubin added 38 sex charges a week ago to include the other victims.

Scott acknowledged in court that he was also pleading guilty to 12 counts to avoid the possibility of being convicted of all 40 charges should the case go to trial.
