The El Toro defense, led by linebackers Jeremy Haas and Mike Nelson, limited the Spartans to 75 yards in total offense.

“They are an exciting bunch to watch, aren’t they,” Coach Johnson said of his defense. “I’m also happy with Rob’s play and some of the receivers, but I’m not pleased with our offense and all of the penalties. We need a lot of work there.”

El Toro was penalized 11 times for 70 yards.

The Chargers gained 401 yards of total offense.

“I’m pleased with my performance for it being my first start on the varsity level,” Rob Johnson said. “There is still plenty of room for improvement, though.”

He completed 15 of 22 passes with no interceptions.

Backup tailback Dominic Vittori added a one-yard scoring dive and second-string quarterback Bill McFadden threw a 12-yard touchdown pass to Chad Sivcovich to close out the El Toro scoring.

“At times, we looked pretty good offensively,” Coach Johnson said. “But we made too many simple mistakes. I’m not happy with any of that. There is a lot of work to be done.”

Doalson caught four passes for 59 yards and the touchdown, and Wade Jackson had three catches for 53 yards.
