Raptor Attention--Pete Bloom will give a slide presentation on California birds of prey at the next general meeting of the Sea and Sage Audubon Society, at 7:30 p.m. on Sept. 18.

Bloom is a biologist specializing in birds of prey (raptors) and has worked on projects throughout California. He will discuss the status, habitat, migration patterns and identification of about 30 raptor species in California.

The meeting will be held at Willard Intermediate School, 1342 N. Ross St., Santa Ana. Information: (714) 543-7393.

Photo Finish--The general meeting Wednesday of Amigos de Bolsa Chica will include a slide show featuring all entries in the group’s fourth annual amateur photo contest. Winners will be announced after the show. The 7:30 p.m. meeting will be held in Room B7 of Huntington Beach City Hall, 2000 Main St. Information: (714) 897-7003.

Marine Institute Potluck--Nicholas Magalousis, director of the museum at Mission San Juan Capistrano, will discuss Native Americans and their relationship with the ocean at a meeting of the Orange County Marine Institute Volunteers on Wednesday. The public is invited to the 6 p.m. event at the Marine Institute, 24200 Dana Point Harbor Drive, Dana Point. Participants should bring table service and a dish that will serve eight. Beyond Recycling--A public forum on waste-stream management will be held on Saturday at Rancho Santiago College, 17th and Bristol streets, Santa Ana. The event is sponsored by the League of Women Voters of Orange Coast. Five panelists will address the mounting crisis in landfill space. The forum will be held from 8:30 to 11:30 a.m. in Dunlap Hall. Volunteers Needed--The second training session for volunteer naturalists at Upper Newport Bay Ecological Reserve begins soon. Help is needed with nature tours, office work, re-vegetation and other projects. Applications must be received by Friday. Information: (714) 640-6746.
