Jenkins caught a seven-yard scoring pass in the second quarter from Kirk Johnson, and Doug Beach kicked a 40-yard field goal as the Aggies led at halftime, 17-3.

Long Beach quarterback Todd Studer threw an eight-yard scoring pass to Mark Seay early in the third quarter, pulling the 49ers within 17-10, but they could get no closer.

Grant completed a halfback option pass to Jenkins for a 27-yard scoring play in the third quarter after Kevin Bouwman intercepted a pass by Studer, giving the Aggies the ball at the Long Beach 30.

Sean Cheevers kicked field goals of 22 and 47 yards for the 49ers. Beach also kicked a 42-yarder.

Grant rushed for 194 yards in the first half. His 292 yards for the game broke Rick Karros’ 1978 record of 252 yards against Fresno State.
