PRO FOOTBALL REPORT : WEEKDAY UPDATE : RAIDERS : McElroy Ends Holdout in Limbo

Veteran safety Vann McElroy, who ended his holdout Monday, doesn’t know what his role with the team will be this season.

“I came in, signed, and that’s about the only comment I have about it,” McElroy said Tuesday. “I feel real good. It’s up to them what they want to do.”

McElroy lost his starting job last season after returning from an injury.

Coach Art Shell said it would take a few days for his players to recover from Sunday’s game, a 14-9 victory over Denver played in 94-degree heat at the Coliseum.

“It requires a little time,” Shell said. “I think by Wednesday it will have come back. Winning has a way of making you come back quick.”

Shell was impressed that there was no bickering by his defensive players about the offense’s inability to score against the Broncos.

“The most important thing about the whole day that made me feel good was that the defense was encouraging to the offense,” he said. “If you have that kind of unity, that kind of feeling throughout your football team, you’ll have achieved a whole lot.”
