On a Canadian Open scoreboard that looked as if it were turned upside down, non-winner Buddy Gardner had the lead and Curtis Strange was the anchorman.

Gardner, winless in 13 seasons on the PGA Tour, overcame cold, windy conditions with some fine putting en route to a 67 to take a one-stroke lead Saturday in the third round at Oakville, Canada.

“I putted like a demon today,” said Gardner, who eagled the final hole from 25 feet and made par-saving putts of three, four, four, six, six, eight, eight and 10 feet.

Strange, a two-time U.S. Open winner, struggled to a 10-over-par 82 on the Glen Abbey Golf Club course where he won Canadian Open titles in 1985 and ’87.

Wayne Levi, a three-time winner this season and the second-round leader, shared second with Nick Price at 208.

Dave Hill shot a bogey-free 64 to take the lead midway through the rain-shortened Greater Grand Rapids Open seniors tournament at Grand Rapids, Mich.

Hill, who has not won on the PGA Senior Tour this year, had seven birdies for a one-stroke lead over 68-year-old Jack Fleck.

The event was shortened to 36 holes when rain washed out Friday’s scheduled first round.

Patty Sheehan turned the Safeco Classic at Kent, Wash., into a runaway with a 66 that gave her a 10-stroke lead after 54 holes.

Sheehan, with a 200 total, was 16 under par for three rounds on the 6,222-yard Meridian Valley Country Club course.
