Airlines Discontinue Junk Fares: American Airlines and United Air Lines said they were discontinuing their super-coach one-way fares, also known as junk fares. The elimination of the junk fares is another attempt by airline companies to increase their yield in an environment of rising costs and sharply declining profits. Junk fare tickets have been popular with business travelers because they are less restrictive, requiring no more than seven-day advance purchase, can be bought for a one-way journey and include refund features.
