Player Collapses on Sideline, Dies Later in Hospital
A Northeast Missouri State University football player collapsed on the sidelines during a game Saturday at Southwest Baptist and died later at a hospital.
Derringer Cade died at Citizen’s Memorial Hospital in Bolivar after he collapsed in the fourth quarter.
A cause of death was not immediately determined.
The game was called off with 4:31 to play, and Northeast Missouri, leading 13-3, was declared the winner.
Cade, a linebacker, had been credited with eight tackles, including 2 1/2 sacks, according to Chris Johnson, sports information director at Southwest Baptist.
Cade, 20, was a junior from Waynesville, Mo.
