Fullerton Opens Conference Play at Fresno

Cal State Fullerton, trying to improve on last week’s performance at Akron, Ohio, will open Big West Conference play at Fresno State tonight at 7.

The Titans (1-3) turned the ball over eight times, five on interceptions by quarterback Paul Schulte, in a 48-17 loss to Akron.

Fresno State (4-0) has a high-powered offense led by quarterback Mark Barsotti, who has completed 76 of 133 passes for 1,090 yards and two touchdowns; and tailback Aaron Craver, who has rushed for 443 yards in 112 carries and scored seven touchdowns.

The Bulldogs, ranked 24th in the nation, also rank sixth in the nation in scoring defense, having allowed only 37 points in four games; 14th in rushing defense, with an average of 91 yards a game; and 21st in total defense, with an average of 272.5 yards a game.
