Pathon Rucker was considered Burroughs High’s biggest fear Friday night, but another Glendale tailback--Kyiamo-Waki Jones--and Burroughs’ own miscues proved to be equally damaging in a 35-6 loss.

Rucker, who entered the nonleague contest at Burroughs averaging 174 yards, was held to a season-low 149 in 21 carries but scored four touchdowns as the Dynamiters improved to 4-0.

Jones picked up the slack, gaining 104 yards in eight carries, including a 56-yard breakaway on the opening series of the third quarter that set up a four-yard run by Rucker and gave Glendale a 29-0 lead.

“I’m just happy everyone got to play,” said Rucker, who had 90 yards by halftime and sat out most of the fourth period. “That was our goal and we had two backs over 100 yards. It doesn’t matter to me how many yards I have.”

Burroughs miscues helped set up three early Glendale scores and the Dynamiters led, 22-0, at the half.

Two Burroughs penalties aided Glendale’s first score, including a dead-ball foul that gave the Dynamiters a first and goal at the Burroughs eight.

Two plays later, Rucker scampered in from two yards to give Glendale a 7-0 lead 4 minutes 5 seconds into the game, capping an eight-play, 55-yard drive.

A bad snap that flew over the head of Burroughs punter Ben Goldwasser gave Glendale possession at the Burroughs 44 late in the first quarter.

Rucker, who had a 33-yard gain on the drive, ran in from three yards to give Glendale a 13-0 lead with 10:52 left in the half.

On the ensuing point-after attempt, Burroughs (0-4) was flagged for being offsides. Glendale then opted to go for two points and Rucker carried the ball in to give the Dynamiters a 15-0 advantage.

Burroughs was limited to five yards rushing and Marco Esquivel was sacked six times, twice by Jayson Spangler, for 55 yards.

A Goldwasser fumble and a roughing penalty set up Glendale’s final score, a four-yard jaunt by Rucker late in the third period.

Hugo Ortega intercepted a pass by Esquivel, who completed 12 of 22 passes for 104 yards, at midfield and returned it to the Burroughs 33.

A roughing penalty moved the ball to the 19 and two plays later Rucker plunged up the middle for a five-yard score that increased the advantage to 22-0.
