SYDNEY, Australia —
Niclas Kroon beat fellow Swede Lars Wahlgren 6-3, 6-3 today in the first round of the $1-million Australian Indoor tennis championships.
His reward was a second-round match against another Swede--Stefan Edberg, the world’s top-ranked player.
Former Wimbledon champion Pat Cash of Australia saved three match points in the second set tiebreaker in beating countryman John Fitzgerald 6-7 (5-7), 7-6 (10-8), 6-2 in another first-round match.
