A Corona woman was killed early Thursday morning when she lost control of her car and slammed into a telephone pole, Santa Ana police said.

Rosa Linda Perez, 21, died at the scene, Police Lt. Earl Porter said.

She and a passenger, identified as Ramon Ayala, 26, of Santa Ana, were southbound on the 21000 block of Bristol Street at 2:17 a.m. when for an unknown reason she veered off the road and struck the telephone pole, Porter said.

Ayala was taken to Western Medical Center-Santa Ana, where he was treated for minor cuts and bruises to his face and a mild concussion.

Porter said that traffic investigators were searching for clues to why Perez lost control of her car. He said that there did not appear to be any other vehicle involved in the accident.

The street was closed in both directions for four hours after the crash, Porter added.
