Former Heat GM Is Named to U.S. Soccer Board

Mike Hogue, a founding member of the Los Angeles Heat Inc., has been appointed by U.S. Soccer Federation President Alan Rothenberg to a committee that will develop plans for a national professional outdoor soccer league. Hogue, the general manager of the Heat from 1986-89, is one of 16 people selected. As part of its agreement to play host to the 1994 World Cup, the United States is required to create a professional soccer league.

Ascot Raceway plays host to CMC motocross tonight at 7:30, sprint cars of the CRA Series Saturday night at 8 and three-quarter midgets and Outlaw mini stocks Sunday at 6 p.m.

The Southern California Slo-Two-Pitch Softball Assn. is playing host to its fall tournament season to be played at parks in Los Angeles and Orange counties. The fee is $170 per team and each team is guaranteed to play at least three games. Information: (213) 866-8685.

Open play for volleyball is being sponsored by the city of Manhattan Beach at the Mira Costa High girls gymnasium. Open play hours are 4:30 to 6 p.m. Monday and 7 to 9 p.m. Friday.
