PRO FOOTBALL REPORT WEEKDAY UPDATE : RAIDERS : Lofton Still Paying Off for the Bills
Wide receiver James Lofton, released by the Raiders in training camp last year, is in his second season with the Bills, who will play the Raiders Sunday night in Orchard Park, N.Y.
“He’s definitely meant a lot to our offense,” Buffalo quarterback Jim Kelly said of Lofton, 34. “He’s like a coach at practice. He helps some of the younger receivers.”
Lofton has 11 catches for 167 yards and no touchdowns in four games. He had a season-high four catches for 57 yards last week.
After calling the Raiders the worst 3-0 team in football last week, sportscaster Cris Collinsworth said on HBO that he was tired of hearing about the 4-0 Raiders and picked the Bills to defeat them.
But defensive end Greg Townsend doesn’t care.
“Cris Collinsworth?” Townsend asked. “He doesn’t play and what he says is insignificant to what we’re doing. He played for Cincinnati and they never could win a Super Bowl. So, he doesn’t know what he’s talking about.”
