Muir Capitalizes on Servite Miscues

At first, the Muir High School Mustangs looked like the self-destruct team that committed four turnovers while losing to Bishop Amat last week.

But in the end, it was the Servite Friars’ inability to contain Muir’s offense that led the Mustangs to a 28-9 victory Friday night at Pasadena City College.

The Friars (2-3) capitalized on a fumble by Muir quarterback Sedrick Thomas late in the first quarter and took a 6-0 lead on Mike Wallock’s 1-yard run with 9:17 left in the half.

But Muir’s offense outdid Wallock, who rushed for 102 yards in 24 carries and one touchdown.

The Mustangs (3-2) went ahead 7-6 in the second quarter on a 27-yard pass play from Thomas to Demetrice Martin. Thomas’ keeper for 37 yards keyed the drive.

Thomas later scrambled free and unloaded a 31-yard touchdown pass to Daniel Stewart for a 14-6 halftime lead.

The Mustangs took a 21-9 lead when Thomas connected with Martin for a 59-yard touchdown pass in the third quarter.

Thomas completed 11 of 16 attempts for 244 yards and three touchdowns. Martin caught five passes for 177 yards.

Servite quarterback Scott Jones was intercepted twice and completed four of 10 attempts for 32 yards.
