Wyche Policy: Curtains, Levity
Cincinnati Coach Sam Wyche was barechested and wearing a towel wrapped around his waist when he arrived at his postgame press conference outside the Bengals’ locker room after his team’s 34-31 overtime victory over the Rams at Anaheim Stadium.
The towel was emblazoned with a man wearing only a fig leaf.
“You see, this can be a pretty decent way to make a living,” Wyche said after pulling off the towel, revealing dress pants.
Wyche was fined $30,000 by the NFL after he barred a female reporter, USA Today’s Denise Tom, from the locker room Monday night after Cincinnati lost in Seattle.
Wyche had curtains installed Sunday in the Bengals’ locker room. The curtains hung in front of the shower area, and Bengal players dressed behind them before coming to the main locker room area for interviews.
“If we all cooperate,” Wyche said, “then maybe we can do something for the female sportswriters of this world. This could be a giant step for mankind.”
