LOCAL : 2 Police Officers Shot in Downey
Two police officers were shot and wounded while responding to a report of a robbery attempt at a retail warehouse today in Downey, police said.
The officers were in stable condition at Downey Community Hospital, Officer Scott Gustavson said. Their names were not released.
The interchange of the Santa Ana and San Gabriel River freeways was shut down for 90 minutes while authorities searched for the gunmen, Caltrans spokeswoman Margie Tiritilli said.
The officers were responding to a 911 emergency call when they were ambushed by four males at a Pace Warehouse on Florence Avenue at 5:15 a.m., police Lt. Dale Goss said.
One officer was wounded in the back and the other in a leg.
The men escaped in a van after the shootout, Goss said. One of the attackers may have been wounded.
