The financially troubled Portland Timbers professional soccer team is up for sale.

Art Dixon, the team’s majority owner, said the Timbers have lost about $600,000 during his two-year tenure. Current debts include about $10,000 owed to coaches and players in back salaries.

Dixon said if new investors or owners are not found by Nov. 1, the team would fold.

The Timbers are in the Western Division of the American Professional Soccer League.

Dixon said most of the financial losses occurred this past season, when the team suffered from poor home attendance and failed to qualify for the divisional playoffs. Attendance averaged 3,149 per game.
