PRO FOOTBALL REPORT / WEEKDAY UPDATE : RAIDERS : Injured Burton Replaced by Hunley
Linebacker Ricky Hunley, a former first-round pick who was released in the final cut last month, was signed by the Raiders after it was revealed that linebacker Ron Burton would undergo knee surgery today because of an injury suffered in last Sunday’s game against Buffalo.
Hunley, 28, was a first-round pick with Cincinnati in 1984 but was traded to Denver that season.
The Marcus Allen-to-the-Rams rumor has been put to rest, but now rumors have Allen going to the San Francisco 49ers because tailback Roger Craig is hampered with a knee injury.
Raider Coach Art Shell said the 49ers called to inquire about the availability of either Greg Bell or Allen.
Shell said he does not expect the Raiders to make a trade.
