Long Beach Faces Struggling Fresno
Cal State Long Beach, which hasn’t beaten Fresno State since 1980, will try again tonight at 7 in a Big West Conference football game at Fresno.
The 49ers, who had a three-game winning streak broken last week by San Jose State, 46-29, are 3-4 overall and 2-2 in the Big West.
Still reeling from a 73-18 loss to Northern Illinois, Fresno State (5-1-1, 2-0-1) was tied by Utah State last week, 24-24. That ended the Bulldogs’ 17-game Big West winning streak.
“When you lose to Clemson (59-0 in the opener) like we did, or to Northern Illinois like Fresno State did, it has a psychological and physical effect on your team,” said Long Beach Coach George Allen. “Those losses are such confidence breakers.”
