Juan Nieves, the only pitcher in Milwaukee Brewer history to have thrown a no-hitter, was released by the American League team.

Nieves, 25, pitched in Class A last season, when the speed of his fastball, once at 90 m.p.h., had reportedly dipped into the low to mid-80s. He underwent shoulder surgery in 1989 and again Aug. 10.
