Tar Heels Tie Georgia Tech

Scott Sisson kicked a 27-yard field goal with 61 seconds left, and unbeaten and 11th-ranked Georgia Tech settled for a 13-13 tie with North Carolina on Saturday.

The tie ended a nine-game winning streak by Georgia Tech, 5-0-1 overall and 3-0-1 in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

The Tar Heels (4-2-1, 1-1-1) twice stopped Georgia Tech inside the 10-yard line in the fourth quarter. The second time prompted Sisson’s kick.

Georgia Tech had four turnovers, the biggest coming when Willie Clay fumbled Scott McAllister’s punt and Reggie Clark recovered for North Carolina at the Yellow Jacket six.

Two plays later, Natrone Means scored on a five-yard run with 13:18 left, and the Tar Heels led, 13-10.

Georgia Tech then drove from its 14 in 16 plays over nearly eight minutes before being held on four plays from the North Carolina four.

A 38-yard pass play from Shawn Jones to Tom Covington later took Georgia Tech to the North Carolina eight. The Tar Heel defense held again, setting up Sisson’s tying kick.
