Saddleback College stunned previously undefeated Fullerton College, 31-29, in a Mission Conference Central Division game Saturday night at Saddleback.

Marc Bohn scored from the one-yard line with 31 seconds left in the game and Scott Hannah kicked the extra point as the Gauchos (4-2, 3-1) subdued the Hornets (5-1, 3-1), who came into the game ranked second the J.C. Grid-Wire national poll behind Bakersfield.

Quarterback Jeff Bailey engineered the Saddleback comeback after running back Brian Williams scored on a 56-yard run with 6:41 left in the game to put the Hornets ahead, 29-17.

Bailey passed the Gauchos 65 yards down the field and found Terry Isles with a 32-yard scoring pass with 5:21 remaining. Saddleback held the Hornets then drove 68 yards to set up Bohn’s tally.

Bailey was 24 for 43 passing for 325 yards and three touchdowns. Isles, with eight receptions for 147 yards and three touchdowns, and Mike Cook, with 10 receptions for 119 yards, shredded the Hornet secondary.

Williams, a freshman from Chino High School, led the Hornet ground attack with 144 yards in 14 carries. Fullerton rolled up 337 yards rushing and 89 passing.

The game matches the two winningest coaches in the history of community college football. Ken Swearingen improves to 218-65-6 and Fullerton’s Hal Sherbeck falls to 231-66-8.
