Did He Phone Her?: Superman is about to make a decisive personal decision. In his guise as Clark Kent, Superman finally succumbs to Lois Lane’s 50-year pursuit and pops the big question in the Nov. 1 issue of the “Superman” comic book. Lane, though still unaware that Kent is the Man of Steel, accepts. “They’ve played games long enough,” said Editor Michael Carlin. “This story had to happen.”

Fast Life: Those royals do like to drive fast. Princess Diana was caught driving nearly twice the speed limit in London earlier this month. The queen’s nephew, Viscount Linley, has been banned from driving three times in two years because of speeding convictions. Other family members with speeding convictions include Princess Michael of Kent, the Duke of Gloucester and Capt. Mark Phillips, Anne’s estranged husband. Princess Anne Monday was fined $295 and banned from driving for a month after being caught speeding for the fifth time. She was once clocked at nearly 100 m.p.h.

Quayle Watch: The Quayle Quarterly, the Bridgeport, Conn., newsletter that keeps a watchful eye on the man a heartbeat away from the presidency, has produced a 1991 calendar. Titled “A Dan for All Seasons,” the calendar has photographs of Dan Quayle and some of his more memorable quotes, including: “One word sums up probably the responsibility of any vice president, and that one word is ‘to be prepared.’ ”

Split Decision: Mike Tyson reached an out-of-court settlement with a parking attendant who claimed the boxing champion punched him when he refused to let Tyson’s white Mercedes-Benz park in a particular spot. Michael Devine, 35, said the terms of the settlement reached Friday prevent him from disclosing how much money he received. “The settlement was a lousy amount for all the trauma I’ve been through,” Devine said Saturday. Tyson has denied hitting Devine.
