Fullerton Tries to End Streak Today Against Long Beach

Cal State Fullerton’s football team brings a seven-game losing streak to Veterans Stadium today, but Cal State Long Beach Coach George Allen doesn’t believe that automatically makes the 49ers the favorite.

“We’re not strong enough, big enough or proficient enough to think we can beat anybody,” Allen said.

Long Beach is 3-5 overall and 2-3 in the Big West Conference going into the 1 p.m. game against the Titans (1-7, 0-3).

Injury-plagued Fullerton, which hasn’t won since the opener against Sonoma State, is coming off a 45-21 loss to Hawaii. The Titans have given up 112 points and 1,300 yards in their last two games.

Two weeks ago, Fullerton suffered a 67-37 loss to University of the Pacific. Long Beach defeated the Tigers, 28-7.

The Titans are led by Reggie Yarbrough, who has run for 100 or more yards five times this season, and quarterback Paul Schulte, who threw three touchdown passes against Hawaii.

Long Beach, which lost last week to Fresno State, 28-16, relies on the passing of Todd Studer and the receiving of Jeff Exum and Mark Seay, who have yards-per-catch averages of 21 and 15, respectively. But all-conference receiver Sean Foster is out with a separated shoulder.
