Glendale Wins Cross-Country Title

Glendale College, powered by the one-two finish of Hugo Allan Garcia and Obed Aguirre, clinched the Western State Conference men’s cross-country title with a victory at Moorpark College on Tuesday.

Garcia, who has won seven of his eight races this season, smashed his previous course record by 1 minute 6 seconds with a time of 19:48 over the four-mile route. Aguirre placed second in 20:14 as the Vaqueros totaled 32 points.

Bakersfield placed second with 38 points, followed by Ventura with 77.

Glendale’s other scorers were Fred Mirzaian (sixth in 21:14), Oscar Perez (11th in 21:51) and Rick Provenzano (12th in 21:54).

The WSC title was the second in three years for the Vaqueros, who qualified for the Southern California regional meet at Irvine Regional Park in Tustin on Nov. 9.

Nicole Jimenez finished seventh to lead the Glendale women to a second-place finish with 76 points. Moorpark won with 21 points.
