PRO FOOTBALL REPORT : WEEKDAY UPDATE : RAIDERS : Bell or Dyal Stuck on Injured Reserve

Share

The Raiders have only one “free” roster move left, meaning that either tailback Greg Bell or tight end Mike Dyal will have to stay on injured reserve for the rest of the season.

Bell, who shared the tailback spot with Marcus Allen until Bo Jackson arrived, injured his ankle Oct. 14 against Seattle and was put on injured reserve. Dyal, who started 16 games in 1989 and was the team’s third-leading receiver with 27 catches, has been on injured reserve since pulling a hamstring against Seattle on Sept. 16. So who’s going to sit?

“It’s always a tough decision when you’ve got two quality guys, actually three, with (receiver) Mike Alexander,” Coach Art Shell said.

The Raiders don’t have to activate either, but the odds favor Dyal, because the Raiders are playing with only one tight end, Ethan Horton.

The Raiders used three of their allotted five moves to activate Howie Long, Bruce Wilkerson and Garry Lewis from injured reserve. They used the other to activate linebacker Alex Gordon from the team’s practice squad after acquiring him from the New York Jets in a trade for cornerback Dennis Price on Oct. 15.
