Corona del Mar Gets Top Billing in 5-A Volleyball

Corona del Mar High School is the top-seeded team in the Southern Section 5-A girls’ volleyball playoffs, which begin tonight.

The Sea Kings (18-1) will play the winner of the wild-card match between Estancia and Redondo Beach in a first-round match Thursday night.

Wild-card matches in the 5-A, 3-A, 2-A and Small Schools divisions begin tonight. First-round matches in all divisions are Thursday night.

Other top teams in the 5-A Division are second-seeded Laguna Beach, third-seeded El Toro and fourth-seeded Capistrano Valley.

In the 4-A playoffs, Cypress will meet Long Beach Poly, Fountain Valley will play Los Alamitos and Esperanza will meet Edison Thursday in first-round matches.

In the 3-A playoffs, defending champion La Habra will play the winner of the Foothill-Santiago wild-card match in the first round Thursday night.

In the 2-A Division, Anaheim will play a first-round matches at Atascadero.

Three Orange County teams will play first-round matches in the 1-A Division. Capistrano Valley Christian will play host to Bassett, Whittier Christian will play host to Pasadena Poly, and Orange Lutheran will play at South Hills.

In the Small Schools Division, Pacific Shores will play a first-round match at St. Margaret’s and Santa Ana Calvary Chapel will play the winner of the Shandon-First Lutheran wild-card match.
