SPORTSCOPE : Redondo Driver Advances to Semifinals of French Series

Matthias Nikolakopulos of Redondo Beach qualified third out of 110 drivers and advanced to the semifinals of the Pilote Elf racing series at the Paul Ricard race track in France. Nikolakopulos is bidding to become only the second American to win the Pilote Elf series, which is sponsored each year by the French Elf Petroleum. The winner receives a year’s sponsorship to drive on the Formula Renault racing series. Nikolakopulos is hopeful if becoming a Formula 1 driver.

The second South Bay Baseball Camp will be held Dec. 27-30 at Mira Costa High in Manhattan Beach. The camp runs from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. and is open to youngsters ages 7 to 17. Southern California Slo-Two-Pitch Softball Assn. is playing host to its fall tournament season to be played at parks in Los Angeles and Orange counties. The fee is $170 per team and each team is guaranteed to play at least three games. Information: (213) 866-8685.
