College Football Report : Weekday Update : SAN DIEGO STATE : New Position Suits Stallings

Share

Aztec Coach Al Luginbill said redshirt freshman Ramondo Stallings seems to be settling into his new position. After playing nose guard for the first six games, Stallings, a 6-foot-7, 275-pounder, has played the last two games at his natural position, defensive end.

Luginbill said Stallings’ effort against Hawaii Saturday was his most consistent of the year. “What Ramondo has to do is make sure every play is the most important play of the game,” Luginbill said Monday. “He started to do that more last week.”

Stallings, who backs up senior Jason Swaney, said things are beginning to come more easily for him.

“I think it all comes with maturing and getting the time,” said Stallings, who played more than half of Saturday’s game. “The thing that I’m most happy about is, I think the coaches are starting to have more confidence in me. I’ve been playing a lot in the big games.”

Receiver Patrick Rowe remained the nation’s leading yardage receiver with an average of 124.75 yards per game. With six 100-yard receiving games in a row, Rowe is only two games from tying Howard Twilley (Tulsa) and Henry Ellard (Fresno State) for consecutive games. He is also ninth in the country with 6.13 catches per game.

Quarterback Dan McGwire has completed more than 60% of his passes in four of his last five games, and he is ranked third nationally in passing efficiency.
