NBA ROUNDUP : Barkley, Hawkins Lead 76ers, 109-101

Charles Barkley and Hersey Hawkins each scored 31 points and the Philadelphia 76ers held off a late Charlotte rally to beat the Hornets, 109-101, Monday night at Philadelphia.

Two free throws by Rickey Green with 1:37 left gave Philadelphia a 103-93 lead, but Charlotte’s Randolph Keys hit a jumper, Tyrone Bogues made a steal and a layup and Bogues made another steal and fed Johnny Newman for a layup to cut it to 103-99 with 1:11 remaining.

Philadelphia’s Ron Anderson scored on the rebound of a missed shot to make it 105-99 with 46 seconds left.

The Sixers led, 84-64, with 3:19 left in the third quarter, but the Hornets closed to 94-89 with 5:13 to play.

Anderson scored 19 points for the 76ers, while Newman had 22 for Charlotte. The Hornets played without their leading scorer, Armon Gilliam, who has tendinitis in his left knee.

Milwaukee 114, Utah 104--Jack Sikma scored nine points to spark a third-quarter spurt as the Bucks rallied from a 17-point deficit to beat the Jazz at Milwaukee.

Sikma and Jay Humphries, who scored seven points during the spurt, helped the Bucks outscore Utah, 31-17, in the third quarter, giving Milwaukee an 82-72 lead entering the final quarter.

Ricky Pierce led the Bucks with 22 points, Sikma had 20 and Roberts 19 as Milwaukee raised its home record to 5-0. Alvin Robertson had 16 points, 10 steals and nine assists for theBucks.

Karl Malone, who averaged 50 points in two games against Milwaukee last season, including a career-high 61, led the Jazz with 24 but had only seven in the second half. Jeff Malone added21.
